Warn Premium Install
I finally got off my lazy ass and upgraded my factory hubs. I figured I should do it while they are still good and can be thrown into my toolbox to use as spares. Just in case you were wondering, my bronco is an 89 351 C6 with factory manual hubs.
Go here for all the nitty gritty on Warn Premium Locking Hubs... ![]() Time for this crap to go... ![]() Start by removing the 6 hex head bolts that hold the cover in place... ![]() This is what you will see, there is a snap ring around the axle shaft, and a locking ring in a groove about 1/2" back from the edge of the rim... ![]() Use a pair of snap ring pliers to remove the axle shaft snap ring... ![]() Somehow you will have to get the lock ring out. It is a girl dog to remove. I used some micro screwdrivers to pry it out, but you can use whatever works... ![]() Now that the hub is just sitting there, put 2 of the hex head bolts back in and use them to pull the hub out... ![]() Like this... ![]() Now would be a good time to do this... ![]() Its like fine art work... ![]() Lightly grease the new hubs and put them in the same way you took the stockers out... ![]() Put the lock ring and the snap ring back in. The hubs should come with new ones, use them... ![]() Make sure that the covers are in the "free" position and bolt them on, engage the hubs and check to see if they lock (Note: these hubs take 9/10 of a turn, and not the pu$$y 1/4 turn). If you can follow pictures, they should... If you get lost, try reading the directions that come with it... If you have any questions or would like higher resolution pictures, PM me Thanks BMC for the wheel bearing write-up ![]() |

Screw the Jeep Thing

I ground a little lip in my ring. This way I can stick to flat head screw driver in each side and it pops right out. Cept the one I made the lip on the wrong side. Not sure what I was thinking on that one:)

The trick to those PITA rings----- theres a small hole in the casing, which can allow a very small screwdriver(i used an akken wrench) you just jam sonething in that lil hole and itl push the ring out, then just slide a screwdriver an pry. saves 10 min of frustratoin and lots of pain(i got very angry and punched something and split 2 knuckles open). this way takes 30 seconds.

I put some in my 95 the other day, it has 3 screws, but i couldnt get the small snap ring in, the big one thats a pain in the a** to get out went in fine, i just figured that, its all that holds in autos in and it would be fine. I fought with it for like 1/2 hour before i gave up

wow. think about all that extra time it takes to turn it 9/10s of the way -vs- the old 1/4 turn. thats going to cut into your wheeling time...

What's the benefit to the 9/10's turn? What's wrong with just 1/4 turn? I've been thinking about slapping these on (Def the premiums because they are only $10 more) but I was wondering what the big deal was.

The gold bling-bling finish helps you over rocks, and nets you another 2-4 hp. Note: those are mid-range figures. Premium hubs don't affect top end power.

Okie cool! Sounds like a good upgrade for the truck! So if I already have manuals I don't need the conversion kit right? Just unscrew and pull and the old ones and slap in the new ones?
