alright so i'm kinda stupid or something because i want to do the saginaw swap but am still not sure of the parts needed. i can't fabricate anything because i dont have the tools and the auto shops on post aren't authorized welding equipment. i went to autozone and looked up part#20-6244 it was $90+$60 core. for grins i looked up the part off a 93 e350 w/5.8 and it was $40+$15 core and the stock pump for my bronco (93 w/5.8) was $60+$15 core. im not opposed to spending money if needed i just dont want to do it on the wrong part. so i guess what i'm asking is this-can someone hold my hand and tell me exactly what all i need to buy to make this swap a success? once i get the parts i can install them, no problem. i've just never swapped in parts not originally for or specially made for my vehicle before and am just being cautious. thanks.

Pump

My pump is making noise as well.

I've been reading on this subject and I see mixed answers. Lots of talk about Saginaw pumps and the Cardone pumps.

I just want to get this damned whine quiet while still having a reliable pump that will last me into the future as my truck gets lift and bigger tires.

So what is it exactly that I have to buy? Saginaw or Cardone?

Which ever one it is, what else would I need to buy besides the pumps?

Please, provide part numbers if possible, I would be getting everything new.

I appreciate it, as I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to Broncos and Ford trucks.

Cardone is a 3rd party that REBUILDS saginaw pumps along with hundreds of other items.

The bolt on pump is #20-6244. It is hard to find though and expensive.

You can get the bracket/pump/pulley off an E-series van though and it bolts on. You just have to use the E-series hose as the fitting at the pump is different from the stock pump.

It really isn't difficult people.

what?...broncos?no they did not......hence the multi-page thread you see here showing a direct bolt on sag pump, instead of the crappy plastic pumps that come stock.

here's what it looks like on a 460.doesn't matter which motor, if you have the original plastic POS pump.......the sag/cardone 20-6244 will fit in it's place.

OK, I just got this pump in the mail, and my new HP line for the E-Series. I am just waiting to find a puller to swap out my pully and I'm in business. My question is,
what is the exact size of the LOWER line and fittings?
Mine leaks and hangs down to far since I modified my cross member for my SAS. I want to order steel braided soft lines to run to my cooler and eliminate the stock lower PS line altogether. I think it's 4AN line, but not sure.

Used the stock HP line on mine. E-series never would seal up to the pump and it fit like chit. Stock line fits fine once you rotate that block fitting on the back of the pump.

yep, i noticed the fitment isn't very good with the E-series line, I may just use my original as well. I was under the impression the fittings were different otherwise I wouldn't have bought it.

So does anyone know how much pressure the lower line builds? I may just use soft hose and some regular slide-on (compression??) hose fittings and double up on the hose clamps that hold the ends on. I figure if one end of the lower hose is a soft hose and compression fitting already, why not the whole thing? The only reason for the lower steel line is for the cooling ability right?

That will be fine.

So what's the best way to pull and replace the pulley without damaging the new pump if you don't have a press around? Are there other special type tools I could use? I'm sure pry bars and a block of wood with a ball peen hammer are not the choicest tools to use.

You can pick up a power steering puller from most auto parts stores for about $20.. same with the installer.. about the same $20...

they are similar to this:

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...teering+puller

and this

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...teering+puller

shop around.. these are expensive.. just and example...

Oreilly's, advanced, and AutoZone will loan you the kit. Actually, you buy it and then they give you a refund when you take it back

I bought my pump from advance auto for 45 bucks with a mil discount and 30 bucks for the core charge. They will take back any pump for the core refund. They didnt have it in stock but they shipped it to my house in two days and I got it in the mail a day after I ordered it. This thing is nice. Get the CARDONE!

I checked the fitting and everything is bolt in for a 5.0 1994 bronco with a/c. It even used the same high pressure line. It comes with the elbow as was stated before this is 100 percent bolt on.
Removed 4 bolts holding the cooling fan to the water pump and pulley.

Remved the pump the hard way. Used a large 3 jaw puller and broke the brittle pulley. I used a hammer to finish it off and unbolted it. Really was painless after that. I did have to make a run for a new pulley and I recommend buying a new 10 dollar pulley ahead of time for this reason.

the new pulley is pre greased and makes for an easier install, I was using just my hands at first but a vice makes it a lot easier.

New saginaw pump note the red and black plastic cap on the high pressure adapter block on the back. This makes it bolt on.

This is a 30 dollar loaner pulley kit from Oreillys, its refundable but i may keep it. Its cheaper than buying the ones off the shelf, they are 60 bucks for the set at the same Oreillys.

Put the new pulley in a vice and clamp the thing down. Use the rental tool to screw into the provided sleeve that came with the saginaw and tighten it till it starts pulling it through. dont use air tools that is one reason the first one broke.

Notice the threaded cap matches both pumps and lines and threads into both pumps. This is to show this pump is 100 percent bolt on, no mods or lines needed.

Air tools here make this a quick and painless job.

The pulley shown here mounted to my engine has the shaft pressed flush with the end. There is a gap behind it and could be pressed more but DONT DO IT. It needs to stay flush with the threaded sleeve when you press it on using the rental tool and vice.

Mount up the STOCK serpentine belt, a longer one is NOT needed and doesnt strain any of your bearings or components. 150 percent bolt on! NOTE: YOU WILL WANT TO BEND YOUR PRESSURE LINE JUST ABOVE THE PUMP RESERVOIR THAT GOES TO THE AC COMPRESSOR. IT WILL BEND UP JUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO KINK THE LINE, THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO REMOVE THE CAP AND CREATE ACCESS TO THE NEW SAG PUMP.

Going back to the comment made about pressing the pulley onto the sleeve, this is the gap you will have in the back, its machined so the pulley can sit back furthur but only make it flush on the face of the pulley as shown above.

All buttoned up, threw some new fluid in the pump, less than a half quart, and used a product off the shelf that stated it was for Saginaw, Honda, Ford, etc, etc. But marketing is key and it said Saginaw so I went all in. NOTE: HERE YOU CAN SEE HOW I ANGLED THE AC COMPRESSOR LINE GOING TO THE RADIATOR. I JUST SLOWLY BENT IT UP WHILE HOLDING THE LINE AGAINST THE AC COMPRESSOR.

Things to remember, get a 10 dollar pulley from Oreillys, part number is in the picture above. Have a good selection of hand tools and rent the specialty tool, its soo worth it. I was able to get my core charge back for my 94 pump at advance auto. Use teflon plumbers thread seal tape to make sure you have no leaks. Total cost for this mod was 60 bucks and some fluid!!!!!!! Took me an afternoon but that was with some auto parts store runs included for a different project.

Bronco Info: Bruiser - 1990 Ford F150, 4x4 Conversion, 3.55's, 33x12.50R15's. No Bronco yet...

If no one has stated it yet, don't get the conversion Sag from Advance and expect to take a stock Ford pump in from an F-Series truck (or any Ford) for the core charge. They don't seem to understand that this pump is a specialty made pump.

I started looking it over when I got it from O'Reilly's and it's a Sag off a 1968 AMC Ambassador with a pended bracket on it to match the Ford pump bolt pattern and a machined shaft that has threads to thread on the extension shaft that locates the pulley in the correct spot. Though they think all '79 F-Series trucks came stock with them....

Took my pump back to Advance auto parts today and received a core refund of $32.58. Also edited my post on this page above with a full write up.
