Overdrive light cycles with brake application
Hope I'm in the right forum. Have several symptoms. Can't make sense out of them. 1. Overdrive light cycles on and off with application of the brakes. If lights off, touch brake pedal and light comes on, touch brake pedal again - light goes off. Turn on emergency flasher and OD light cycles with every blink. Have removed all turn signal/ brake light bulbs, disconnected OD switch harness from switch, changed BOO switch. No effects. Can't find any shorts, wiggle tests have no effects.Transmission does actually shift in and out of OD when this is occuring. 2. Truck can be running fine, stumbles - doesn't matter if your idling, driving, cold, warm, or hot - and now it is barely running, like missing on all eight. Have new plug wires,ASF42c plugs gapped @ 0.044", new cap, new rotor, hell I even replaced the distributor and TF module. Still does it with no warning. Can run fine for days or weeks, then suddenly it's completely stupid. I have discovered that if you turn it off, crank it right back up for that 3-5 seconds after start-up when the engine revs to about 1500 rpm it runs fine then slows down to stupid again.Pulling Spout doesn't help. Static timing is 10 degrees BTDC. Oh yeah, when all this mis-firing is occuring the tach is everywhere.
3. If those aren't strange enough try this one. Most of the time the truck is fine, E4OD behaving. Turn engine off, re-start and now it can't quite figure out when to lock the torque converter. It's like slipping, but not exactly like slipping. Then it may look-in go 2 miles or 200 and do it all over again. Turn vehicle off, let cool completely, re-start and drive all day no slip, no shift abnormalities. Turn off, turn on and here we go again. Engine codes are none to nearly all of them. Nothing consistent. Have checked MLA, all sensors, solenoid resistance readings, and applied different brands of scanners. I now have about 4 technicians eager to know what I finally figure out. |

yo!
Had almost da same situation in my 96 a few yrs ago; I need to look for my notes on what fuse blew due to a harness short under steering column that affected the OD Cancel Light (it blinked randomly, no Trouble Codes or tranny malfunctions though); Doesn't matter what fuse it was since it is diff in your year anyhow... Here is a TSB that deals with it; for a 92 though.. and may apply... even tho year range is off... and your OD sw is in dash and 96's are on end of tranny stalk....but... itsa pure guess on my part..and it's an ez no $ check anyhowz 1992 Ford Truck F 150 4WD Pickup V8-351 5.8L Vehicle Level Transmission and Drivetrain Technical Service Bulletins Customer Interest Electrical Systems - Multiple Malfunctions Electrical Systems - Multiple Malfunctions Article No. 92-22-5 10/21/92 LIGHT TRUCK: 1992 BRONCO, F SUPER DUTY, F-150-350 SERIES ISSUE: The transmission control switch wiring may be misrouted causing a short in the steering column and a blown # 17 fuse.
