It has the white and red wires that are power one for the light one for the tach i'm guessing. It also has a black ground and a green wire for the coil ground. My question is what wire are you guys grabbing for the coil ground? I read the tan one, does anyone have a pic? do you mean the tan one coming from the brown plug on the coil?

I tried a couple of different wires today and can't get the tach to function. It lights up so it has power and it's grounded, just can't get it to work. Any help is appreciated.

Alright guys, Ive gotten myself stumped silly and figured it was time to call in the troops. Ive spent countless hours searching the web, diagnosing, trying to fix this idle problem. Ill give the run down of my setup and the problem its having, as well as my previous attempts to fix it.

I have a 1986 fuel injected bronco converted to MAF from a 91 Mustang.

The motor is a brand new 302 with a Rv cam that i no longer can find the specs to.

the motor and cam was a replacement option from an engine supply company to fit a 86 stock bronco with 86 fuel injection.

I am aware the cam could possibly be incorrect for fuel injection as well as the injection firing order is off on 2 cylinders because of the mustang computer. However ive pretty much proven that to not be the issue at hand.

I do have the egr and smog pump removed. With appropriate resistors in place to tell the computer it is closed. Also an EGR block off plate.

The Problem is this. The truck will crank just fine, and almost immediatly die.
If i hit the throttle it will run, however sounds like a huge cam installed. Does the whole lope thang. However the cam isnt suppose to lope like that and it seems obvious it is missfiring. I can smell its running very rich and if you stand behind the exhaust your eyes will water. The engine in the compartent is shaking left and right like crazy. Makes the whole bronco bounce left and right. Somewhere around 1500 rpm it will start to run smoother. And at speeds it is completly driveable with power.
Now the WIERD part. If I drive it at least a block or 2 and stop, the engine will idle PERFECT. If at that moment i kill the truck and immediatly restart, it instantly goes back to missfiring and loping. Also Once i hit a jarring bump while idling on a trail and it instantly started misfiring also. (not sure if it was a coincidence or not)

Now for what ive done to try to figure it out.

1. Checked all fuses
2. Checked all relays
3. Checked FPR and it was faulty so I replaced it to no effect.
4. Cleaned, Tested, IAC with no effect, Replaced with new one with no effect.
5. Checked TPS and its working great. Tried setting from .99 volts to .92 volts with no effect.
6. Tried several of my buddies Barometric sensors with no effect ( I dont have a Hz tester to test the sensor itself hence using multiple sensors to see if any change occured)
7. Fuel pressure is between 39 and 40 psi
8. ACT was testing with correct restance for air temperture.
9. Replaced ECT sensor
10. Made sure timing was set to 10* btc with spout connecter removed.
11. Replaced All Vaccum lines. Even tried capping all openings on Intake manifold to see if any difference was noted. Was NONE.
12. The Maf looks very clean. Im unsure how to test it. However If i unplug it while the moter is running it instantly dies. So im assuming its fine.
13. I pulled a code indicating rich condition while the truck is on, but not running. My code reader for somereason refuses to pull codes or test while the bronco is running. It works on my buddies truck tho. Possible ECM problem?
14. Tested voltage at all sensor, as well as checking all grounds. Looks great.
15. New fuel filters in tank, resevior, and inline.
16. New Alternator
17. New fuseable links
18. Ac compresser spins freely

19. Ran a vaccum test today with interesting results. When the truck is missfiring, backfires a little, and is loping like crazy. the vaccum is only at 5 hg
if i rev the motor to like 2000 rpms the engine sounds great and the vaccum is at like 20 or 30. When I drive the bronco for a block or 2 and come to a stop and its idling great the vaccum is still high. like 20 ish if i remember right. maybe even higher. If i kill the motor and instantly restart the vaccum is back to 5 hg. Sometimes I can get it to keep idling byitself without dieing while its loping and after a few minutes something just changes and it reves up to about 1500 rpms and settles into a perfect idle.

Because it will idle smoothly if i drive it first or let it sit idling for awhile, ive ruled the cam out as being the culprit. Im almost wondering if i have a valve problem, or a ECM problem. The lack of vaccum either makes me wonder its prematurely firing and leaking explosive gas back into the intake manifold, or if i have valve, spring, and or a cam failure. Because it will sometimes just starting idleing perfert like sombody flicked on a switch makes me consider an ECM or electrical problem. Any ideas? What stumps me is why will it run correctly if i drive it for a block or 2 first?

I'm new here, new to owning a bronco, and new to rear end trouble.

I just purchased an 81 bronco w/5.0 . for 1500. Maybe 20-30 miles after purchasing (the next day), I noticed a whine in the rear. It got louder fast. I suspect the previous owner pulled one over on me. I took it to a mechanic I trust who lifted it, removed the brakes, etc and verified that the noise was coming from the differential. He quoted me 1000 to replace the rear end with a good used one.

What I'm wondering now is, would I be better off selling it for whatever I can get at this point and picking up another? If I'm going to spend this kind of money, I'd rather put something better in there than another used rear end - what would you do? Is there a good kit I can purchase for an upgrade? Would a dana 60 fit on there without a lot of modification?

This truck will be used for mostly highway useage and will occasionally pull a small boat down a trail - no offroad use other than that. The rear end is dropped already, where should I go from here? Thanks.

I guess I am looking for what items I should start checking/replacing that seem reasonable.
